Many thanks to everyone who came to our Quiz Night, We had a great evening and raised over £300. Special thanks to the Brunswick again for giving us a great venue, for free. Also David Rogers for setting the questions and Sally Hawksworth for being the hostess. If you missed it you can download copies below.

At the event we signed a card of solidarity and support to  Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı. September 11, 2024 by zarganar

Thanks to everyone who supported our Jamnesty at Chaplin’s & The Cellar Bar last Saturday. We raised a fantastic £1300. Unfortunately persistent rain curtailed performances outside, and made for a slow start, but soon the Cellar Bar filled up. And we sold lots of cake! Many thanks to Nic, Connie, Geoff and all the staff at Chaplins. And a big thanks to all the music acts and poets who performed to help raised money for Amnesty International. Also local businesses and people who donated raffle prizes

Welcome!

Iftar in Ensbury Park

April 11, 2024 by zarganar

We co-hosted and helped organise an Iftar at Ensbury Park Community Centre on 5th April. The driving force behind it was Sister Tama, Islamic Faith Adviser at Bournemouth University. It was also supported by Grounded Community, BCP Council and BCP Shout-Out.

It was third time lucky! We originally planned an event for the 21st March at the Garden Rooms café. When this wasn’t able to go ahead we had an enthusiastic response from the Sister Tama, to the attend an Iftar she was organising at the University. This was set up for the 22nd, but then vetoed by the University, because “of the current political situation“!!

There were over 60 guests for the meal. We had a small stall and discussed some of the current campaigns we are working on. Special thanks to Mark Stimson, group member and Activism Rep, for his perseverance to make this event happen.

Interest in our campaigns, letters being signed

Write for Rights Events 2023

December 15, 2023 by zarganar

Thanks to everyone who supported us for two events at Bournemouth Library and, for the first time, at The Social Canteen in Boscombe. One of our group also got her church involved – the Parish of Four Saints.

Many thanks to the library staff for their help in facilitating the events, ensuring everything was in place for us, and then individually showing interest in the campaign and signing cards. And many thanks to Bournemouth Foodbank for helping us bring W4R to a new venue.

Please visit our earlier post to read more about W4R, see videos on the individual cases and Take Action.  The campaign continues throughout January.

Quiz Night Autumn 2023

Human Rights Act
Happy 25th Birthday, Human Rights Act

Many thanks to everyone who came to our Quiz Night, We had a great evening and raised over £250. Special thanks to the Brunswick again for giving us a great venue, for free. Also David Rogers for setting the questions and Sally Hawksworth for being the hostess. If you missed you can download copies below.

We also marked the anniversary of the UK Human Rights Act being signed into law – 25 years ago. After the quiz we gave a cheer and raised a toast to celebrate.

The Human Rights Act helps us hold authorities to account when things go wrong. The current Governments plans to replace the Human Rights Act with a “Bill of Rights” were, fortunately, abandoned in June. But we must remain vigilant and remind people why the Human Rights Act is important and worth defending.
